Thomas is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and a performance coach for runners and cyclists. He holds a Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology a Bachelors of Education in Secondary Teacher Education, both from the University of British Columbia. He is currently working as a counsellor with the Vancouver School Board and in Private Practice.
Thomas has been trained in Client Centered and Cognitive Behavioural therapies. He also integrates numerous counselling approaches and interventions from several counselling paradigms to provide complete, comprehensive and individualized treatment for his clients. He has also run group sessions for those with anxiety, depression and those requiring addictions support.
Thomas also consults as a performance coach for elite and recreational runners and cyclists. He specializes in providing guidance in all aspects of sports performance for distance athletes. He believes in a holistic coaching model that examines an athlete's form, training, nutrition, life balance and goals. By exploring all areas performance with his athletes, he is able to identify and anticipate the hurdles preventing his athletes from achieving their life and performance goals. By working together in collaboration, he strives to maintain a sustainable coaching model allowing people to achieve their lifestyle and competition goals.
Professionally, Thomas has coached elite and recreational runners and cyclists both in their physical and mental preparation. He has consulted extensively with high school athletes, recreational competitive athletes and elite competitors including coaching mountain biking with West Coast Cycling Club.
As an athlete, Thomas has competed in local road cycling and cyclocross racing in BC and Washington. Thomas has also competed in local trail racing events including the Iron Knee, Fat Dog Relay and Phantom Run. You will often find Thomas in the North Shore, exploring the trail systems as a cyclist and runner, as a trail run clinic leader or race director for local races in cyclocross and trail running.
