April Campbell


A trained manual therapist with extensive clinical experience, April holds an Advanced Diploma in Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy from the Canadian Physiotherapy Association Orthopaedic Division and is a Fellow in the Canadian Academy of Manual and Manipulative Therapy (FCAMPT). She is also certified in Chan Gunn Intramuscular Stimulation (CG*IMS) through the Institute for the Study and Treatment of Pain (iSTOP), holds a Certificate of the Acupuncture Foundation Canada Institute (CAFCI) to perform Medical Acupuncture and is a graduate from the Discover Physio Series with Diane and L.J. Lee, with a focus on the Integrated Systems Model (ISM) and Thoracic Ring Approach.


April graduated from the University of British Columbia in 2006 with a Masters in Physical Therapy, after previously completing a Bachelors degree in Kinesiology & Physical Education from the University of the Fraser Valley (formerly UCFV).

April is known for her understanding of the orthopaedic and biomechanic underpinnings of how the body works. She uses a wide range of physiotherapy and related health care techniques to help her clients feel and perform better, so they can return to full, pain-free functioning.

April teaches Gross Anatomy and Surface Anatomy at the University of British Columbia Masters of Physical Therapy Program. She lives in spectacular North Vancouver, where she has embraced downhill and cross-country mountain biking, snowshoeing, hiking, running and everything else the North Shore has to offer.

Certificate of the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute

The Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute is a non-profit Institute which has been in the foreground of Canadian medical acupuncture education since 1974. Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physical Therapists

The Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physical Therapists is Canada's member organization of the International Federation of Manipulative Physical Therapists (IFOMPT), part of the World Confederation of Physical Therapy and the World Health Organization. Physiotherapists who are Fellows of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT) have completed extensive post-graduate education and achieved internationally-recognized qualifications in hands-on spinal and peripheral joint manipulation therapy. Intramuscular Stimulation/Chan Gunn Intramuscular Stimulation

Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) is a total system for the diagnosis and treatment of myofascial pain (chronic pain that occurs in the musculoskeletal system when there is no obvious sign of injury or inflammation). IMS is a deep dry needle technique that works by targeting and relaxing tight muscle fibres. Developed 30 years ago by Vancouver-based physician Dr. Chann Gunn, IMS utilizes acupuncture needles to pinpoint muscles that have become shortened from distress.

Integrated Systems Model

The Integrated Systems Model (ISM) for Pain & Disability was developed by Diane and L.J. Lee to help physiotherapists better understand and interpret how impairments in one or more of the body's systems can impact a patient's overall functioning. This allows clinicians to determine the "primary driver" of a patient's problem, and design a treatment plan tailored to his or her unique needs.
